The Temple story

An Irish pub with Ostuni at its heart.

Small, lively and welcoming — the kind of pub where one pint can easily turn into a whole evening.

For us, Irish pub culture isn’t about decoration. It’s about the bar as a meeting place, taking care over every pour and making everyone feel welcome.

Behind the bar you’ll find Guinness, lagers, IPAs and whiskey. From the kitchen: burgers, pulled pork, sandwiches, sharing plates and plenty of fried favourites.

On big match days and live music nights, the pub comes alive. On quieter evenings, it’s simply a great place to catch up over a drink.

Our story

I’m Nicola, and Temple Bar began with one simple idea: Ostuni was missing a true Irish pub.

A relaxed place where you could enjoy a good beer, have something to eat, listen to music and spend the evening with friends. It was the kind of place I had imagined for years, and eventually I decided to create it.

1996

I’ve worked in hospitality since 1996, when I started out in Benevento in places much like this one. After many years, though, I felt ready for a change: to step away from the usual routine and create something new.

Ostuni was the natural choice. I lived here as a child and came back every summer, so it has always been a city I felt deeply connected to.

2019—20

The idea began to take shape in 2019, and work on the pub started in 2020. During that time I met Alberto, who was there at the start of this journey, and Vincenzo, who is still our chef and a pillar of the pub.

Choosing Viale Pola was no accident either. When I was young, this was the centre of Ostuni. Before the old town became what it is today, much of the city’s everyday life happened here. I believed this part of town could thrive again, and it felt like the right place to build the pub.

Today

Temple Bar grew out of my experience, my connection with Ostuni and the desire to create a pub that felt genuine, unpretentious and welcoming.

Today, it is exactly the place I imagined: somewhere you can walk in without a plan, order a beer, bump into someone and immediately feel at home.

We didn’t want to open just another bar. We wanted Ostuni to have an Irish pub of its own.

And that story has continued every night since 2020.
